Americans Natives

Native American 12“Native Americans in the United States” is the term that describes indigenous peoples of the United States (including parts of Alaska and the island state of Hawaii). That is a good way to rename the ancient tribes who lived in the all regions! But for sure it’s not appropriate to call them Indians!

When the colonization took place, was easy to mark the differences between the European colonists and the American natives! It becomes the reason to start a conflict!

The diversities in culture between the Native Americans and Europeans, and the shifting alliances among different nations of each culture, led to great misunderstandings and long lasting cultural conflicts.

The conflict started and at that time the pre-Columbian population was about 1 million to 18 million, but for sure after the colonization and nowadays the population is extremely reduced!

But what does it mean to be American native today?

According to the U.S Census about 70 percent of Native Americans live in urban areas, that means thousand of miles away from their traditional homeland.

They still speak their languages or maintain ties with their reservation or Indian communities, but often with some social struggle. We live in a dynamic society,  that is in movement: some of the American natives are old, some are new and some are on-going. It’ important to keep the roots and in the same time to go on!
